FAQ
Datest was founded in 1984 to address the growing trend of outsourcing assembly test services, together with increasing OEM demands that EMS providers deliver fully tested, functioning product. This trend has only accelerated to the present day, driven forward by relentless challenges of component miniaturization, order-of-magnitude increases in packaging density and performance (Moore's Law!), and resultant accessibility constraints using traditional ICT methodologies. Developing the means to successfully test the products of this evolving packaging density lies at the core of Datest's integrated test approach. It is what we do.
The owner and president of Datest, Robert A. Boguski, Jr., is a 35-year veteran of the electronic interconnect Industry, with a broad-based background in, and management of, board fabrication, design, assembly, program direction, as well as test, component and manufacturing engineering.
How is Datest different from other testing services?
We are a board test company engaged in the development of test fixtures and programs. For our competitors that order is reversed.
We feature a multidimensional, multi-platform test strategy to attack the perennial problem of maximizing board test coverage for the fewest dollars. Hence our slogan: Integrated Test Solutions.
In addition to offering superior customer service, we listen carefully to each client's requests and we do not interrupt. Only then will we respond with a tailored solution to the client's needs. Then, we move swiftly to execute that solution. We never presume to dictate to the client in a "We Know Best" fashion.
We are humbly grateful for our clients’ confidence in us and for their ongoing business. They are the reason Datest exists and prospers.
In plain English, what does “integrated testing solutions” really mean?
It means maximizing test coverage, and thereby test effectiveness, by deploying multiple test platforms in the service of testing and validating a board. For example, a client might specify in-circuit testing, but upon review of their design Datest engineers may advise the client that a more optimal, cost-effective approach would be to employ a combination of flying probe, boundary scan, or AXI (5DX) Inspection. In so recommending Datest delivers value to the client and maximizes their testing dollar.
Which markets are served by Datest?

In plain English, what does “bonepile rehabilitation” mean?
It means using Datest's full suite of integrated testing resources to troubleshoot, rework, and restore to operational status assemblies that have previously failed a customer's functional or system test. Often, the customer has exhausted their troubleshooting budget and has even written such failures off their books. In spite of this, written-off boards frequently continue to reside in the customer's warehouse; hence the vernacular term "bonepile."
Datest mobilizes the same hardware and software resources utilized in production board testing to aid in troubleshooting, fault diagnosis, repair, and recovery. Testing using the flying probe system, Boundary Scan/JTAG testing, and X-ray inspection are all highly effective, and frequently used for this task.
Every customer's situation is unique; however if quantities are significant, we may be able to provide a free sample evaluation prior to officially taking on your project. Our objective is to arrive at an efficient test solution that is both cost-effective (typically with a rehabilitation cost that is a fraction per board of the original assembled board price—otherwise why do this?) and delivers significant value (i.e., has a high recovery rate). Following our evaluation, it only remains for us to tell you either "Yes We Can," or "No We Can't". In our experience, we declare the former far more often than the latter, but in either case, the risk to the customer is zero. We will either deliver value to your bottom line or we won't: It's that simple.
