Our History

Born from Experience
1980
Jerry Spoolman founds Cal Test, providing PCB testing services using a Factron 303.
1984
John Innes acquires Cal Test and officially establishes Datest in Milpitas, California.
1992
Datest launches in-house fixture design and test program development, expanding engineering capabilities.
1994
Datest relocates operations to Fremont, California, where it remains today.
2002 - 2003
Datest enters flying probe testing, acquiring its first GenRad Pilot system followed by SPEA 4040 S3/S4 platforms.
2009
Datest is acquired by Robert Boguski and Regina Lathrop, marking a new era of growth and investment.
2009
Datest expands advanced imaging with acquisition of an Agilent 5DX Series 5000 AXI system and joins IEEE, SMTA, and IPC.
2010
Datest achieves AS9100 certification for the first time (maintained continuously since).
2011
Datest becomes a GOEPEL Technologies Center of Excellence for JTAG/Boundary Scan applications.
2012
Acquisition of Nordson Dage Ruby X-ray system accelerates growth of failure analysis services.
2016
Datest earns its first Service Excellence Award from PCEA/Circuits Assembly Magazine (nine total to date).
2017
Marketing partnership with VJ Technologies and acquisition of a 225kV Microfocus CT system, expanding into CT scanning and metrology.
2018
Datest enhances imaging analytics with VGStudio MAX software and joins ASNT.
2020 - 2023
Continued investment in advanced test platforms, including SPEA 4060 S2 and ASTER TestWay predictive test coverage software.
2024 - 2025
Datest honors co-owner Regina Lathrop following her passing and continues forward-looking investments with Viscom iX7059XL AXI and progress toward CMMC cybersecurity compliance.

In Memoriam of Regina Lathrop

Datest honors the life and legacy of Regina Lathrop, co-owner of the company and a driving force behind Datest’s growth and success for more than a decade.

Regina became co-owner of Datest in 2009 and played a pivotal role in shaping the company’s culture, operational excellence, and long-term vision. Her leadership, integrity, and commitment to both customers and employees helped guide Datest through significant expansion and technological advancement.

In 2024, Regina passed away following a nearly three-year battle with cancer. She is remembered not only for her professional contributions, but for her strength, resilience, and the lasting impact she made on the Datest team.

Her legacy continues to influence how Datest operates today — with care, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to quality.
